Sweet Sheryl

American flagSo who might Sheryl be? Sheryl is the sweet voice I heard down the hallway as I darted back to my hotel room here in NYC for something I'd forgotten. As I opened my door, I heard a melody of words float down the hallway ... "mercy and grace, a ha, mercy and grace"

I stopped with key in door and said "is that mercy and grace you are singing". "Yes ma’am" she said. Sheryl is the lovely soul watching over our floor in the hotel. I said, "oh I love mercy and grace", to which she said, "I love mercy and grace too", to which I said, "I love Jesus", to which she said, "I love Jesus too", to which I said, "I REALLY love Jesus", to which she said, "I REALLY love Jesus too" ...

Sheryl lives in Brooklyn, attends a little church and said she wakes each morning with a song of worship in her heart.

I love that. We have just planted a church (as ya all know) in New York City, but we are under no delusion ... We have come into this city and are building on the prayers, sacrifice and worship of many inconspicuous but profoundly significant people who we may never know about till we hit the other side (eternity).

So on behalf of those who have loved and prayed for "this particular city", we thank you for helping to lay a foundation and prepare the soil for this planting of the Hillsong House. By God’s Grace will we do our best to honour and value the foundation, and build with the many others in the city, something magnificent to His Name and Glory.

To all the sweet Sheryls out there, who are loving and owning the city of their specific planting ... May His mercy and grace overshadow you all the days of your sweet life.

John 4:37-38 (NLT)
You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. 38 I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”
